Using HD video encoded natively by webcam over tether?

#1

Hi folks,

Been away for awhile from AROV(family addition),and had a question… Is video encoding being handled currently by the webcam (natively) or by the Beagle Bone Black? Did a few quick forum searches and didn’t come up with much… Seems like frame rate would be much higher with the video encoded natively by the WebCam leaving more for other computations on the beagle.

Regards all!

Hi Merrick,

The HD camera that is currently being used does MJPEG compression on the camera. The Beaglebone is just pulling it off the USB and streaming it. The BBB with the latest Kernel seems to be running between 20% to 40% cpu these days. About half the CPU is currently going to parsing the serial stream from the Arduino.
