—Part 1 - Component Sourcing—

Bill of Materials

Because the OpenROV assembly instructions is for those who are able to build their 2.8 kit from a purchased kit, those instructions assume that all the items on the bill of materials are already in hand.

A few of the components will need to be fabricated or built from CAD files. These include:

  • Laser-cut acrylic and polypropylene (CAD files below)
  • Cutting plastic tubes to length (see notes in BoM document)
  • Creating cables and assemblies (see notes in BoM document)
  • Fabbing the electronics (CAD files / electronics BoMs below)

Consumables
The OpenROV 2.8 assembly also requires a few tools and consumables. These can be found here:

CAD Files for Hardware

All of the files for the kits are open source. The files are designed to be laser cut out of 1.5mm, 3mm, and 6mm thick acrylic.

The released mechanical files include the native Autodesk Inventor files, STEP files, and DXF files for laser cutting.

The released electrictronics files include the Gerber files, BOMs of components, and schematics.

OpenROV v2.8 was ported to OnShape (which is a CAD program that runs in the browser and is free to use) for modifications and hacking.

The latest stable software releases (for v2.6-v2.8)

OpenROV Cockpit Software: 30.0.3

OpenROV Cockpit Software (BETA) for Units Sold with HD Camera Upgrade: 30.1.0 DEV #169 (don’t use this unless you are sure you’ve got an HD camera upgrade).

Instructions for making SD cards

The software is open-source and can be found on GitHub. The main repository can be found here. This is for reference only.
