Inductive Coil for Detachable Tether


The Idea is to use 2 pair of Coils, on the ROV and at the end of the tether, so that you can remove the tether from the ROV.

A concern raised by Walt Holm is that we then would not have the 5v DC across the tether to turn on/Cycle the ROV.

Would it be difficult to have the switch look for, the normal signal sent from the TopSide adapter (sent to connect to the ROVSide adapter), instead of the 5v?

We could use a magnetic switch (like a door switch for an alarm) to turn the ROV on, but that does not allow us to cycle the ROV. Being able to turn the rov off and on is nice, but being able to cycle the ROV from the surface is crucial.

Any Ideas?
