Fiber Optic Slip Ring

Have you seen Ghosts of the Abyss? It's the documentary James Cameron made during/after filming Titanic. For ROV enthusiasts out there, it's a must see.

The ROVs used in the film, Jake and Elwood, have some pretty incredible features - here's more info on the SpiderBot.

David L (not me) is currently working on an alternative to the fiber optic slip ring used on this type of ROV. You can read more about his project and comment on the forum discussion here.

Regarding James Cameron, there is a Google+ hangout next Sunday which includes him where people can ask questions, there are also several other well known explorers on the list (i.e. Robert Ballard, Jane Goodall, etc.).

Hangout Sunday, January 13th at 1 p.m. ET (6 p.m. UTC).

Quote from Google+ post:

We're bringing together Robert Ballard, James Cameron, Jane Goodall and explorers from all seven continents.

Use #NatGeo125 to ask questions here or on YouTube and tune in to the Hangout on Air this Sunday, January 13 at 1 p.m. ET (6 p.m. UTC).
