Fast Co. reported that researchers in Scotland are trying to build a swarm of coralbots to repair deep sea corals.

The researchers at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland are now trying to raise $3.2 million to demonstrate the swarming technology with a group of robots that sport video cameras, image-processing software, and simple manipulation tools such as scoops and arms.

Seems like a better strategy might be to prototype the swarm software with a cheaper robot, like an OpenROV. It would certainly cut down on the $3.2 million in costs, not to mention add a dimension of community and open development.
