Confusion on Homeplug adapter

Hi I’m just struggling to understand the flow of data and power through the Homeplug adapters. Why is there a USB connection and a external power connection on the screw terminals and an Ethernet connection? I also don’t really get the over all function of the adapter. Could someone explain it to me in a simple way? Thanks!

Hey Casey,

The only purpose of the USB adapter is to provide electrical power to the Homeplug Adapter board, and to put a small voltage across the tether which turns the ROV on. The USB port does not transfer any data.

So the USB powers the homeplug and the Ethernet transfers info between the between the homeplug and the computer/microcontroller. And there’s a twisted pair running between the homeplugs. Is that right? Are there any other connections or wires running? Thanks.
